Languages

There are relationships between languages that have yet been undefined. I have been tracing the voyage of the Indo-European languages through Anatolia for some time, but when I was translating Sigurd and Gudrun, and related commentaries by Tolkien Sr.and Jr, I started to find evidence of relationships between Turkish and old Norse, old German, middle English through the relationship, I believe, between Huns and Goths. And what more probable relationship between them, the old neighbors, ancient foes and rarely friends. It would be the folly of us to think they lived in two isolated spheres, not affecting each other culturally at all, these two barbarian hordes rubbing shoulders and clashing arms all the time. It would be the folly of us to be convinced that one is the exalted race of the elves, while the other is the base orcs, when their pagan beliefs were similar, their alphabets were similar, their life styles were similar. It is a rift, this enmity, so old, so worked into the cultural consciousnesses that the effects prevail after more than a thousand years. It is my belief that the current prejudice and racism in the psyche of the Goth-begotten-European has its roots in the enmity against the Turkic-begotten-Anatolia. Too sad that popular culture in the form of Tolkien tales and popular politics in the form of scare-them-to-beguile-them still enforce the same enmity.

Someone has to go the other way to read the cultural and linguistic relationships between peoples. One way other than the prevalent Indo-European route.
